Practicum Students, Interns, and Volunteers, Oh My!
Edit: Transcript available at: http://bit.ly/V9pmZc
Hi Medical Librarians!
As mentioned during last week's #medlibs chat, I offered to lead this week's discussion. (Please be gentle.)
This Thursday, I'd like to talk about steps and opportunities you've taken to develop the next generation of medical librarians, whether they be practicum students, interns, or volunteers. How have you recruited them? What problems did you face finding candidates? What projects have you given in the past? Are there projects that you can see giving someone?
Come to the Thursday, January 17, 2013 #medlibs chat at 6pm Pacific/9 Eastern as we discuss this topic. I look forward to chatting with you!
Never participated in a Twitter hashtag chat before? Check out this overview and come on in, we're a supportive community.
P.S. If you're interested in leading an upcoming chat, be sure to let Nikki know. She will GLADLY take more volunteers.

Happy New Year #medlibs!
Edit: Transcript available at http://bit.ly/WGM1K9
On Thursday, January 10th 2013 at 6pm Pacific/9pm Eastern, join us to add your voice to the ideas from the last chat in December on directions for 2013 - and sign up to take a role in having them happen.
Effective immediately, Nikki Dettmar will only be able to moderate/reliably participate on the second Thursday of each month due to a number of work and professional organization commitments that are increasing this year. To be more direct: this means that if others do not step up to take on development, promotion, hosting & archiving #medlibs chat duties on other Thursdays, that chat will be it for the month. We have many great ideas that will take a lot of others pitching in to help - especially where a potential journal club & interprofessional Twitter hashtag chats are involved. Many hands (and connections) make light work!
Never participated in a Twitter hashtag chat before? Check out this overview and come on in! We're a supportive community going through some exciting changes ahead and especially welcome library school students and others who are new to both the field and Twitter.

Wrapping it up: Directions for 2013
Edit: Our brainstorming document of where we're headed - journal club! woohoo!
Revisiting the beginning when our chat launched in June this year, the concepts of Sharing, Ideas, Medical & Knowledge are crystal clear as desired outcomes:
Last week in our free range discussion, collaborating across established hashtags was discussed.
This week, on Thursday December 13 (our last organized chat of 2012) at 6pm Pacific/9pm Eastern come ready to share with your fellow #medlibs on Twitter with descriptive URLs ready to include when applicable:
If you can't make it please comment below with your ideas, and spread the word. Never participated in a Twitter hashtag chat before? Check out this overview and come on in, we're a supportive community.

Free range first Thursday
Edit: Transcript http://bit.ly/11O0WIA
Over the past month we've served disaster information needs, explored libraries in social media and discussed continuing education in an online era after the last free range was all about Hurricane Sandy. This Thursday (December 6, 2012) at 6pm Pacific/9 Eastern join us on Twitter for a #medlibs discussion about these topics or anything else you'd like. How are you putting the knowledge you've gained from our chats to use? Did you register for the April 2013 data management MOOC? (thanks for the link, @ultimatelibrarn) Join the conversation and let's find out!

Continuing Education in an Online Era
Edit: Transcript at http://bit.ly/V7R6wy
What online continuing education (CE) opportunities are you pursuing these days? Are they meeting your/your career's needs? Why or why not? Have things changed for what we need from CE to hit the ground running now compared to the past? Inspired by Nikki's thoughts along these lines that she may or may not be able to pull her act together and write about on Tuesday night, and it sounds like Sally has some thoughts along these lines as well.
Come to the Thursday, November 29, 2012 #medlibs chat at 6pm Pacific/9 Eastern as we explore more along these lines.
